A Message from President Abell
The Commissioners are the executive branch of government for Vanderburgh County. The three commissioners, President Marsha Abell, Vice President Joe Kiefer and member Stephen Melcher live in different districts in the county and are elected countywide. Districts 1 and 3 are elected in Presidential election years and District 2 is elected in Presidential mid-term election years.
You are invited to attend the commission meetings on Tuesdays at 5:00 PM in the Civic Center. A schedule of the meetings is on the home page. You can request an allotted time to speak in public about an issue or you can address the commission under the Public Comment section of the agenda. You are also invited to attend the county drainage board meetings which are immediately following the commission meetings.
You will see one or all of the three commissioners from time to time at county ribbon cuttings and when announcements are made. Please feel free to approach us and discuss any subject of which you have concern. We may have to take notes and get back to you but we will attempt to address your problem. You may also contact us by calling our office or sending us an email. This information is also available on our web page.
The Board of Commissioners makes many appointments to boards and commissions that assist us in the operations of county. We are always interested in people who want to give of their time and talents to these positions so please contact us if you have any interest. A list of the board and commissions to which we make appointments is on our web page.
If you are new to our community or you are thinking of moving to our community----you are already a welcomed addition. Please feel free to contact our office with any question you may have about what a great area Vanderburgh County is to grow a family or a business. Welcome to the place we call home.
