Cases filed in the Civil Division of Superior Court are randomly assigned to one of the six rotating judges. These cases consist of the following casetypes: CC - civil collections, CT - civil torts, MF - mortgage foreclosures, MI - civil miscellaneous, PL - civil plenary (formerly CP), and PO - protective orders. These cases would generally be initiated by filing a summons and complaint. The defendant would then be required to answer the complaint within the 20 days or be subject to default. Protective Order cases are initiated by filing a Petition for Order for Protection which is assigned to one of the rotating judges. The petitioner would be directed to that judge's office for an ex parte hearing on the petition. If the petition was granted, it would be set for hearing with notice to the respondent. See Protective Order forms for the state web-site page on protective orders and forms. See also Local Civil Rules.
See Vanderburgh County Clerk for additional information and filing fee information.
