To ensure that every person in the Evansville area has an opportunity to receive a world-class education, Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel formed the Evansville Education Roundtable almost immediately upon taking office in 2004. The Roundtable works, among other things, to increase the rates of high school graduation, post-secondary education attainment and adult educational attainment; close the achievement gap; and enhance early childhood education by enhancing communication and fostering collaboration among government officials, educators, members of local business and industry, and the community.
There are more than 60 elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and post-secondary educational institutions in the Evansville area. This includes public, private, Catholic, Lutheran, and Christian schools.
